What Are Partitions and Disk Images?
Partitioning a hard drive is the process of dividing the disk into multiple
sections, or partitions, each of which appears to your system as a separate
hard drive. You can use these partitions as if they were separate hard
drives, installing whatever you like on each one, even having multiple Mac
OS X installations on one physical hard drive. I use partitions on my Mac

drive on my Mac. I??™ve partitioned the drive, installing Mac OS X 10.5

With this setup I can boot my Mac in either version of Mac OS X and still retain access to my
personal files on the Stuff partition.
