Disk images are files that contain the exact contents and file structures of a physical
disk, like a hard drive or CD/DVD. These kinds of disk images are exact carbon copies of
the disks they are made from, making them great for archiving disks. A second type is a
blank disk image, which acts like a physical disk that you can copy files and folders to. Disk
Utility can easily burn disk images to physical disks.

disk images, or burn CDs and DVDs of disk images.
Open Disk Utility by choosing Hard Drive | Applications | Utilities | Disk Utility. Figure 23-1
shows Disk Utility??™s default interface.
Work with the Disk Utility Toolbar
The standard toolbar functions give quick access to common tasks, as described next:
?–  Verify Select a disk or disk image from the sources list on the right and then click this
button to have Disk Utility examine it for any problems.
