Some third-party disk recovery software may be able to salvage some or all of your data,
or you can take it to a computer professional who will charge you big bucks to attempt a retrieval
of your material.
Please, please, please heed my plea: BACK UP YOUR MAC!
Apple has provided a great new tool for backing up a Mac: Time Machine.
Back Up with Time Machine
Time Machine is the latest and greatest technology from Apple, and is an
integral part of Mac OS X as of version 10.5. Time Machine is best used to back
up entire systems, but that??™s not its claim to fame. Lots of third-party utilities
out there can handle basic backups, but Time Machine literally lets you go
back in time to retrieve copies of files, folders, and even entire drives, whether

they??™ve been recently deleted or not. Time Machine not only performs this feat, but also offers
eye candy (a geek term for really neat-looking graphics) to convey the retrieval that is so fun to
watch you??™ll want to restore files all day long.
To use Time Machine, you need an external or internal hard drive with enough space to back
up your entire system (and then some), or a volume attached to a server on your network.
