"How to Do Everything: Mac"

CHAPTER 24: Back ??™er Up: Using Time Machine 479
There are two ways to view Time Machine??™s progress: you can watch the status in the Time
Machine preferences pane, or minimize the preferences pane and just watch the bar in the small
Time Machine progress window.
When the backup is finished, the Time Machine preferences pane tells you when the last
backup was performed, as well as when the next backup is scheduled. When the slider switch is
set to ON, Time Machine performs a backup every hour.
To pause a backup, just click the slide switch to OFF, and to resume it, slide it back to ON.
Use the WABAC Machine
Those of you who are familiar with the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show no doubt caught the reference
in the title of this section. The WABAC (pronounced ???wayback???) Machine was a device used by
Mr. Peabody (a brilliant dog) and Sherman (Mr. Peabody??™s owner), two characters who had their
480 How to Do Everything: Mac
own series of shorts on the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, to travel back into time and come back
again. Time Machine is Apple??™s Mac OS X equivalent of the WABAC Machine, going back into
your Mac??™s history to find data that it brings back to the present.
